Crypto down payment on a house
Using crypto toward a down payment is different from a fully crypto-funded cash-style close. Here’s a clear, high-level map.

Two different goals
A) Traditional mortgage + crypto-sourced down payment
You sell crypto (or otherwise convert it), deposit fiat, and use that cash as the down payment while a lender finances the rest. Underwriting, seasoning of funds, and tax lots matter. This is not the same product as a pure crypto-platform cash close.
B) Larger crypto-funded purchase (little or no bank mortgage)
You aim to bring enough crypto-derived liquidity to close without a conventional loan — often via a specialized platform. Down payment language is less relevant; it’s about full (or near-full) funding capacity.
High-level steps for a crypto-sourced down payment
- Decide target down-payment % and home price band
- Convert price to BTC with the calculator so you see coin requirements
- Plan conversion timing (volatility, liquidity, fees)
- Document source of funds for the lender or title company
- Keep speculative altcoins out of the “house money” bucket when possible
What we won’t do here
This is not tax, legal, or mortgage advice. Lending rules and tax treatment change. Talk to qualified professionals before you sell large amounts of crypto for a purchase.

FAQ
Can I pledge BTC as collateral instead of selling?
Sometimes via specialized lenders; terms, LTV, and liquidation risk are serious. ReHodl’s primary focus is purchase funding paths, not leverage products.
